Ok, I am no expert when it comes to eyeliner and I am a bit rubbish when it comes to applying liquid flicks. If you want to get some application tips, there are loads of fab videos on YouTube that can help! But I can tell you about what I do that works for me and a bit about the type of products that are out there.
Eyeliner comes in a range of forms that give different effects, from bold cat-flicks to smoky eyes; from subtle definition to a pop of colour. As a general rule, shadows, creams and soft pencils tend to be softer and liquids/gels tend to be more defined.
2. Pencil - can be built up for a little definition up to a heavy eye look
3. Kajal - smudges out really well for a simple smoky eye
4. Gel pencil - easy to apply bold look
5. Kohl pencil - another one that is good for smudging
6. Metallic pencil - a lovely sheen effect
7. Felt tip pen - an easy to use way to get a bold look
8. Gel from a pot - when you've had some practise, this gives a great precision look and is good for creating a cat-flick
9. Fibre tip - lovely for a subtle yet defined look
10. Metallic liquid - gives a bold line of colour
11. Sparkly liquid - good for the party season!
12. Metallic cream - gorgeous for a subtle line of colour
On a day to day basis, I tend to use a narrow eye shadow brush such as this one from Eco Tools (the thinnest one in the pack) or this one from Bare Minerals to apply a little plum, brown or bronze shadow on my upper and lower lash lines. I like using shadow as eyeliner - it is easy to control how heavy the line is and you can extend the colour from your lids to create a well-matched look. I like to use a pale/shimmery shade on the inner corner, top and bottom, to make my eyes seem more awake and bright. I occasionally go for a pencil liner and stick close to the lash line, sometimes smudging it out for a slightly smoky effect.

Great post as always and far too many products. You make my collection look weak ;) I use eyeshadow to make my eyes look bigger usually *makes mental note to buy neutral coloured pencil

Ive never used a shadow as a liner, i really need to try this!! You have loads of eyeliners though so it's not like you need to do this everyday haha!!
